Launcing pilot vessel for Port of Milford Haven

Lauwersoog, 20 November 2025: Next Generation Shipyards launches new pilot vessel for the port of Milford Haven

Next Generation Shipyards has reached another milestone with the successful launch of the new 22-metre pilot boat for the port of Milford Haven. The ceremony took place at the shipyard in Lauwersoog, in the presence of representatives from the Port of Milford Haven, BMT, Camarc Design and NG Shipyards.

The vessel has been designed for optimum safety, reliability and operational efficiency and is a valuable addition to the port’s fleet. The vessel will now undergo intensive sea trials and the future crew will receive extensive training from the shipyard. Delivery is scheduled for spring 2026.

Tom Sawyer, Chief Executive of the Port of Milford Haven, said:
‘The safety, performance and finish of this vessel exceed our expectations. It provides our crews and pilots with a significantly safer and more capable platform.’

Dirk Keizer, Technical Director of NG Shipyards, added:

Port of Milford Haven
The Port of Milford Haven is the UK’s largest energy port and Wales’ busiest port, responsible for approximately 20% of the UK’s seaborne oil and gas transport. The port and surrounding energy cluster are a major economic driver for Pembrokeshire, attracting investment and supporting over 4,000 jobs.

The Port also manages Pembroke Port and Milford Waterfront, facilitating activities such as cargo handling, ferry services, fish landings, cruise ships and a high-quality marina. The port area is located within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) with multiple Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The Port of Milford Haven is a trust port: an independent organisation with statutory responsibilities for safe navigation and port facilities. All profits are reinvested to support these objectives, and the Port also provides significant support to local initiatives.
